Dr Jonas Salk
Dr Salk was an American medical researcher and virologist, best known for his discovery and development of the first safe and effective polio vaccine, using killed virus.

Dr Albert Sabin
Like many researchers of his day, Dr Sabin strongly disagreed with Salk’s approach. Sabin believed that long-term immunity could only be achieved with a live, attenuated virus.

Dr Val Bazeley
Dr Bazeley worked with Jonas Salk towards the production of a poliomyelitis vaccine. He subsequently returned to Australia to pioneer the vaccine’s production at CSL.
